Detroit Lions Unveil Exquisite Barry Sanders Statue
Barry Sanders, one of the best running backs in the history of the National Football League, unveiled his statue at a ceremony Saturday afternoon, in front of friends and family.
With host Dan Miller counting down, Sanders pulled down the blue cover, revealing a statue that has impressed everyone who saw it.
The statue will be available for all fans to see at Ford Field.
“If I could, I would go out to each and every Lions fan, give you a hug, tell you how much I appreciate you. It’s been such a wonderful journey for me just being lifted up and cheered on by all the Lions fans out there and Barry Sanders fans. I really appreciate it," Sanders told the crowd. “It’s hard to express how much you really mean to me. So thank you, thank you, thank you so much all of you Lions fans for packing the Silverdome, packing Ford Field. We had some great times together."
The Pro Football Hall of Fame running back recently revealed he is the subject of an Amazon Prime documentary that will be released in November.
In it, Sanders will reveal the real reason he decided to hang it up, after 10 years playing in Motown.
"Over the last year I have been filming the definitive movie on my life with Prime Video and Amazon Studios," Sanders shared on social media. "The great mystery of why I walked away will be answered once and for all."
A teaser has been released online and features Sanders sitting, ready for an interview at Fox Theatre.
