Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week, the NFL announced Wednesday.

The Lions' passer threw for 353 yards and two scores Sunday in a 20-6 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With the win, the Lions pushed their record to 5-1 in the organization's best start since 2011.

Once believed to be a bridge to the future for the Lions at the position, Goff has developed tremendously over three seasons. He played at a superb level over the final 10 games of the 2022 season and has carried that production into 2023.

"I don't know what MVP is or isn't these days. I do know this, he's playing at a very high level. He's making the throws that are there, he's seeing the field and he's exactly what we need," Campbell said Wednesday. "He's doing exactly what we're asking him to do. I've said this before, he is an evolving quarterback, he's developing, he's been developing and he just keeps getting a little bit better. That's a credit to him. That's a credit to coaches, but it's a credit to him. He's somebody that does believe he's always got more to give. He's growing. He's in a good way, our line is protecting the heck out of him. You give him just a minute, he can see it, he can throw it and our receivers are making plays."

On the season, Goff has thrown for 1,618 yards, 11 touchdowns and three interceptions. Under his leadership, the offense has worked to be a top unit in the NFL.

Jared Goff: Earning Game Ball Carries 'Pretty Significant Weight'

After struggling in his first season with the Lions, the passer has continued to develop and is now being mentioned as a possible MVP candidate six games into the 2023 season.

"I'm extremely pleased but I never saw necessarily a cap on this guy. The only thing you know that he's not is this tremendous running quarterback, mobile, whatever," Campbell explained. "He's got enough to move and maneuver and he breaks out on some runs but everything else, it's a matter of, he's protected, he sees it. So no, I'm not surprised. Knew he was tough, knew he was resilient and he's grown. There's been consistency in what we're asking him to do, there's been consistency in his play and there's been growth. He's in a good place right now, his confidence is sky high and we've got to keep him there. That's really on all of us, the players, the coaches, everything. But we're in a good spot."
