Roger Goodell: Networks Want Lions Games Featured

The Detroit Lions are becoming a team television networks want to feature more. 

With a charismatic head coach, a general manager who celebrates with fans after road wins and a team stacked with interesting personalities, the Lions are a team with plenty of appeal. 

In fact, Netflix is currently filming star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown throughout this entire season. 

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, speaking with Fox 2 Sports Director Dan Miller Sunday at Ford Field, indicated more networks are asking about the Lions. It likely means increased opportunities for primetime games or games flexed into times where more of the country can witness what is occurring in Motown. 

Last season, Detroit caught the attention of the NFL world when it marched into Lambeau Field and defeated the Packers, keeping them out of the playoffs. 

"I think a lot of that goes back to the final game last season. When they went into Green Bay, they didn't have anything to play for, but they went and they beat their divisional opponent, knocked them out of the playoffs," Goodell said. "I think people woke up to that, and they saw that and I think they admire that. And then the kickoff game (against Kansas City), you made another statement."

Owner Sheila Hamp has worked to market the team in a much different fashion than what fans have been normally accustomed to. 

As a result, the Lions are becoming one of the most popular teams in the NFL. 

"She's been extraordinary. Focused on things she needed to focus on, she's done a remarkable job," said Goodell. "Brad and the coach, Rod (Wood) has done a great job, they built a culture that you can feel when you walk in the field."
