Bang the Table: Detroit Lions Are 2023 NFL Draft Winners
The Detroit Lions have received positive praise from pundits who believe the team has solidified its position as NFC North favorites, based on their 2023 draft haul.
According to The Sporting News, "There’s a tendency to knock the Lions for Brad Holmes, their GM, getting a little aggressive and perhaps over-drafting Gibbs and Campbell a little in the first round. But Detroit is in 'win big' now mode and those players will have massive immediate impact, much like Aidan Hutchinson. LaPorta and Branch also were great values to fill two more voids. Getting Hooker to stash behind Jared Goff was gravy. Detroit is a lot more than strong NFC North favorite in 2023."
Detroit general manager Brad Holmes has not been shy about showcasing his satisfaction when the team adds a player it believes will aid the franchise in winning regular season and playoff games.
“I just love it. I actually told myself and I told the others in the room I was going to be more disciplined, but I guess I just can’t state it or emphasize it enough that we draft players that we love," said Holmes. "When you’re able to acquire them and you get them, sometimes you just really can’t control the emotion and it’s just genuine. It’s authentic, and when you find that guy that you love and that’s a fit for what we’re about and what our culture is and what we want our football team to look like, you just really can’t control the emotions.
"Most of the time, the object in front of me is a table, so that’s what gets the beating all the time," Holmes continued. "My son, who’s four years old, he told me this morning, he said, ‘Daddy, I saw you on TV.’ I said, ‘What was daddy doing?’ He said, ‘You were beating the table, and you gave a high five, you hugged somebody and you were in glasses.’ And so I said, ‘Good job.’”
