Podcast: Why Lions Will Be 2023 NFL Draft Winners
The Detroit Lions are poised to be winners of the 2023 NFL Draft.
With multiple picks and the flexibility to address multiple areas of need with talented prospects, the team has the opportunity to add to a core group of players that is coming off of a winning season.
NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah recently told reporters on a conference call, “When you look where they’re picking, they’ve got four of the top-55 picks, so they’ve got a chance to add some real, real help to the roster. And, with the way that their lineup is set up right now, they don’t look like they can’t line up and play tomorrow at a certain spot. So, that allows them to take the best player available.”
Detroit general manager Brad Holmes expressed that this year's a little more unpredictable than in years past.
At the No. 6 spot, the personnel department has gotten closer to nailing down the cluster of players that it believes will help the team.
"I still say that we’re still kind of allowing that to crystalize a little bit," said Holmes. "I will say that we’re closer now than at that time, but there’s still work to be done. Every draft is different, and like I told you guys last year when (we) picked at two, we pretty much knew what that cluster was at that time. It’s gotten closer, but it’s just a lot more film, a lot more research has been done. We’ve had a lot more meetings since that time, so just all the research and just kind of sticking to our process and just rendering the results from that and just being confident in our process. That’s how I can always sleep good at night, knowing we’ll come up with the right group.”
On the latest edition of the All Lions podcast, several reasons are given for why the Lions will be named winners at the conclusion of the draft.
Also, Jameson Williams was recently suspended for violating the NFL's gambling policy. Listen to find out why he is deserving of all the blame and criticism he has received.
