Look: Lions Penei Sewell Tosses First Pitch at Tigers Opening Day
Detroit Lions right tackle Penei Sewell celebrated and flexed after successfully tossing the first pitch at Comerica Park for the Detroit Tigers home opener against the Oakland Athletics.
Prior the game, the talented offenisve lineman sat in the dugout, took photos and soaked up the atmosphere on one of the most festive days in Detroit sports.
Opening day for the Detroit Tigers represents hope, enthusiasm and a festive party atmosphere that fans look forward to all year.
Sewell, appearing on Bally Sports Detroit prior to the game, discussed the Lions' accomplishments in 2023 and the sense of urgency the organization feels after just coming up short of appearing in the Super Bowl.
“It was great. Obviously fell short of what we wanted to accomplish," Sewell said. "But overall, we had fun, both the coaching staff and the players. So, can’t wait for this upcoming season.”
After a stunning loss to the San Francisco 49ers, the team is seeking to use the sour taste in their mouth in order to fuel another deep playoff run.
“It’s just the standard. A sense of urgency also," said Sewell. "Those two things go hand in hand and what we’re gonna accomplish this upcoming season is gonna be one remarkable season.”
The 23-year-old stood on the mound and tossed a successful pitch in front of cheering fans.
Afterwords, Sewell expectedly flexed and celebrated, as some notable athletes have in the past had embarrassing attempts at tossing out a ceremonial first pitch.
The Tigers open the home portion of their MLB schedule with a weekend series against the Athletics.
