GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay Packers designated safety Darnell Savage to return from injured reserve on Monday. He was part of an enormous initial injury report for Thursday’s Thanksgiving game at the Detroit Lions.

The Packers have a 16-4 lead on the injury report. Yes, the Packers listed about 30 percent of their roster on the injury report.

Coming off Sunday’s game, neither team practiced, so the injury designations were estimations. That’s probably how it will be all week.

If the Packers would have practiced, running backs Aaron Jones and Emanuel Wilson would not have participated and AJ Dillon would have been limited. The additions of Patrick Taylor and James Robinson provided an instant infusion of critical depth with Jones and Wilson almost certainly out this week.

On offense, tight end Luke Musgrave and receiver Dontayvion Wicks would not have practiced. On defense, linebacker De’Vondre Campbell would not have practiced, and starting defensive backs Jaire Alexander, Keisean Nixon, Corey Ballentine, Rudy Ford and Savage would have been limited.

“We had a lot of guys step up, and that was critical today in terms of just the number of injuries that we’ve had and just guys,” coach Matt LaFleur said after Sunday’s 23-20 win over the Chargers. “You look at the back end, we had Carrington Valentine, Corey Ballentine, Jonathan Owens and Anthony Johnson [in the starting lineup].”

Receiver Jayden Reed, who had a touchdown run as a focal point of the game plan, was not on the injury report.

“He was a little banged up, as well. Nothing serious but battling through. He took a nice hit,” LaFleur said.

While Stokes was eligible to return to practice and did, cornerback Eric Stokes (hamstring) was not designated for return.

On a short week and without a real practice, Savage’s return to the lineup might have to wait for next Sunday night’s home game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
