Clifford Gets Rodgers’ Locker

Someone had to get Aaron Rodgers’ locker. That someone was rookie quarterback Sean Clifford.

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Green Bay Packers rookie quarterback Sean Clifford doesn’t necessarily have big shoes to fill. He does have a big locker to fill.

His locker is the same one manned by Aaron Rodgers, the first one on the left when you enter the locker room and a couple spots before the locker of new starter Jordan Love.

“I’ve been told that,” Clifford said with a laugh.

Actually, Clifford didn’t need to be told. He already knew.

When I came up on my top-30 visit, I got to come in here and I saw the locker with Aaron’s name on it,” Clifford said.

Obviously, Clifford didn’t know he’d inherit the four-time MVP’s locker. Heck, he didn’t know he’d be drafted by the Packers.

Clifford, who will battle Danny Etling to be Love’s backup, was given jersey No. 8. That was Rodgers’ number at Cal and with the New York Jets.

“I understand who was in here before and I respect everything about that,” Clifford said. “At the same time, I came in and I found my name on the plate and I sat down. I’m doing whatever it takes to win games here. I’m very appreciative of the opportunity. Green Bay has a guy who’s going to come in and give them their all, and I can promise that. I’m just trying to create my own legacy now and continue just to get better.”

Rodgers isn’t the only legend who’s no longer a member of the Packers. Mason Crosby, the leading scorer in franchise history and the team’s kicker since 2007, remains unsigned. Rookie kicker Anders Carlson, a sixth-round pick, was given Crosby’s locker. Carlson will battle 2022 undrafted free agent Parker White.
