Packers Close Gap in Latest Rodgers’ Next-Team Odds

Where will Aaron Rodgers play in 2023? Packers? Raiders? Jets? The odds have shifted for the top teams at one national sportsbook.
In this story:

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Las Vegas Raiders remain a heavy favorite to be Aaron Rodgers’ team for the 2023 NFL season but the Green Bay Packers have closed the gap and the New York Jets remain on the fringe.

In new odds from DraftKings Sportsbook, the Raiders are -350 to be Rodgers’ team for next season. By implied probability, that’s a 77.8 percent chance. That’s strong, though not quite as strong as on Tuesday, when they were -450 or 81.8 percent.

Raiders fans want Rodgers. Davante Adams wants Rodgers, too.

“Duh,” Adams, at the Pro Bowl, said of recruiting Rodgers. “Why would anybody not do that? I mean, 100 percent. That’s my guy, obviously. And wishful thinking but we’ll see what happens.”

And his best recruiting pitch?

“That I’m here.”

Do the Packers want Rodgers? The Packers went from the favorite to a major underdog, but their odds have shortened in recent updates. On Thursday, they are +250, a big move after falling to +600 on Tuesday. Through the sportsbook’s lens of implied probability, Green Bay’s chances to keep Rodgers have doubled, from 14.3 percent to 28.6 percent.

What’s interesting is how the Jets are viewed. They have a complete roster other than at quarterback. Coach Robert Saleh and owner Woody Johnson have publicly said they want to add a veteran quarterback. The presence of offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett would be an immediate winner for Rodgers in terms of personality and scheme.

In other words, everything seems lined up for a Brett Favre-esque move to The Big Apple. And yet the Jets over the last 10 days have gone from +110 on Jan. 31 to +600. That’s an implied probability of only 14.3 percent.

At least in betting circles, it’s a three-team race for Rodgers of the Packers, Raiders and Jets. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have the next-shortest odds at +1500.

The New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans, two other teams that seem to be a good fit, remain +2000.
