Packers Hosted Three-Time All-American on Predraft Visit
GREEN BAY, Wis. – Ryan Miller, a three-time All-American at Furman, had a predraft visit with the Green Bay Packers last week, according to a league source.
Listed as a tight end at Furman, Miller generally aligned as a tight slot. He recorded a school-record 28 touchdown receptions.
During the abbreviated, COVID-impacted spring season of 2020, Miller caught 15 passes for 254 yards and six touchdowns. Then came the big numbers: 43 receptions for 749 yards and seven touchdowns in 2021 and 72 receptions for 762 yards and a school-record 12 touchdowns in 2022. He finished fourth in the Southern Conference in receptions and second in receiving touchdowns.
Sure, but what did he do against better competition? How about 13 catches for 95 yards and one touchdown at Clemson.
According to Pro Football Focus, he was 7-of-10 on contested-catch opportunities and averaged 6.0 yards after the catch.
He had a strong week at the Hula Bowl, including two catches and one touchdown in the game.
Miller will play receiver in the NFL. He ran his 40 in 4.48 seconds with a Relative Athletic Score of 6.97.
“He’s definitely got wide receiver skills," Furman coach Clay Hendrix told The Greenville News in 2021. "At 215 (pounds), a guy that can run like that is also hard to tackle. He’s been really, really good with the ball in his hands. … He’s one of the few guys that have consistently made explosive plays when he touches the ball. It’s a combination of speed, breaking tackles, and he’s competitive as heck.”
Miller was the first three-time All-American in the 117-year history of Furman football.
A native of Jackson, Tenn., Miller comes from a family of athletes. His father played baseball at Auburn and his mom was a cheerleader and a member of the dance team at Middle Tennessee State. His grandfathers played college sports, as well.
