GREEN BAY, Wis. – Losing at the Las Vegas Raiders following their mini-bye and the Denver Broncos after their regular bye delivered a painful one-two punch to the Green Bay Packers’ playoff hopes.

The Packers’ 2-1 start, fueled by an impressive win at Chicago and an impressive comeback against New Orleans, is but a distant memory following a three-game losing streak.

With a 2-4 record, the Packers have plunged to 12th in the NFC playoff race. That’s down one spot from last week.

The good news? They’re only one game behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-3), who own the seventh and final playoff spot and will come to Lambeau Field in December. Plus, the next two weeks, they will host the Minnesota Vikings (3-4), who are in eighth place, and the Los Angeles Rams (3-4), who are in ninth place. Finally, they’ve got a victory in hand over the 11th-place Saints (3-4).

“I think going through some adversity, as long as you come out the other side of it, can be a positive thing if channeled and harnessed the right way,” coach Matt LaFleur said.

The bad news? Putrid starts and last-minute interceptions doomed the Packers against the Raiders and Broncos, two of the worst teams in the NFL. So, instead of being 3-3 or even 4-2 and back on the heels of the Detroit Lions in the NFC North, Green Bay is facing an uphill battle to get back into the playoff race.

“A lot of these [games] in this league, no matter who you’re playing, come down to a couple plays and, unfortunately, we’ve been on the wrong side of three of those,” LaFleur said.

“There’s definitely plays out there for us to make. What have we lost, three games by seven points? That’s not comforting to say by any stretch. But we’ve got to find a way to make the plays, especially at the end of the game. There’s been three times this year where our offense has had the ball with an opportunity to go down and take the lead and we haven’t gotten it done.”

Meanwhile, according to Tankathon, the Packers are in line to gain the seventh pick for the 2024 NFL Draft.

The good news? The Chicago Bears (2-5) are No. 3 but playing much better. They’ve already lost to the Broncos (2-5), who are No. 4. And they’ve got games at the Giants (2-5), who are fifth, and at home against the Chargers (2-4), who are eighth.

The bad news? The Bears have a chance to get really good, really fast. After trading out of the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft in their blockbuster trade with the Carolina Panthers, the Bears are in line to get the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 draft because the Panthers are 0-6. Plus, the Bears have their own pick.

The disappointing news? With Aaron Rodgers out with a torn Achilles, the Packers won’t get the Jets’ first-round pick. Worse, the Jets are winning even without Rodgers. New York (3-3) owns the 17th pick, meaning the second-round pick the Packers will gain would be somewhere around No. 50 overall if the draft were held today.
