Who Will Win: Adams or Ramsey?

Packer Central surveyed two players, two coaches and two scouts about the marquee individual matchup between Packers WR Davante Adams and Rams CB Jalen Ramsey.

Who wins the big individual matchup between Green Bay Packers receiver Davante Adams and Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey? That’s a tough question to define, let alone answer.

Nonetheless, Packer Central surveyed two players, two coaches and two scouts who, obviously, are not affiliated with the Packers. Their answers:

Player 1: “I got Davante. Jalen is a great player, no doubt about it, but nobody will be able to stop Davante one-on-one. Jalen may follow Tae, but you best believe he won’t be playing man-to-man every snap. Davante is a team-effort guy. It will take a team effort to stop him, especially with ‘12’ throwing to him. He’s too explosive, route running is amazing, and his release off the line is deadly. Too much for one man to handle all game.”

Player 2: “Jalen’s a smart corner and he’s not going to go up there and press that man. Davante is most dangerous when someone’s trying to press him. But you can’t press him. It’s almost impossible. So, I think Jalen’s going to play off, which is going to help him. Looking at it like that, the times that Jalen is on Davante, I’m going to say Jalen’s going to win because he’s going to play off. I think Davante’s going to catch a lot of smoke (receiver screens), maybe a couple slants and you’ll see a double move at some time in this game to try to catch Jalen sleeping.”

Coach 1: “Oh, shoot, there’s going to be so many variables. I’m not saying that as an out but it is a thing. You’ve got pass rush, you’ve got play-calls, you’ve got footing. At the end of the day, if you’re just watching them, it will probably end up being 50/50. Now, that 50/50 doesn’t mean the ball’s going to be thrown to him. It could be going the other way based off of the coverage. Or maybe there’s pressure. But, at the end of the day, because they’re great athletes, it would probably be a 50/50 split. You grade them vs. other people, Davante would probably be 80 percent or 90 percent and Ramsey would probably be 80 percent or 90 percent. But when you get these two cats, it’s going to be a heavyweight fight.”

Coach 2: “If they don’t have the safety help, Adams wins.”

Scout 1: “That’s the big matchup but they’ve got to find a way to stop Donald, as well. That’s the difference-maker. It doesn’t matter who it is (blocking him), you cannot win consistently against him one-on-one. There will be a lot of chips and extra attention.”

Scout 2: “I’m going Adams. He is such a good route-runner that Jalen will have his hands full.”
