Panthers Blanked by Jets

Recapping the Carolina Panthers' loss to the New York Jets.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Bryce Young's heavily anticipated debut didn't go as well as everyone had hoped. He completed 4-of-6 passes for 21 yards and made good decisions with the football. However, he was sacked once and knocked down to the ground three times.

The protection was an issue all day, regardless of who was in at quarterback but after seeing 9 on the ground on nearly half of his dropbacks, it was time to get him out. Matt Corral checked in and nothing changed. A pair of three and outs in the first half followed up by two fumbles on the opening drive of the second half, the second of which was recovered by the Jets.

On the opening drive of the game, the Jets pieced together a long, methodical drive resulting in a 47-yard field goal from Lance Zuerlein. Zach Wilson hit Michael Carter for a 24-yard gain on a swing pass to drive the offense deep into Panthers' territory.

Just before the half, the Jets tacked onto their lead with a two-yard touchdown from Wilson to tight end Kenny Yeboah on a play-action rollout to the left. Two plays prior, Israel Abanikanda hit the hole and put a spin on rookie safety Jammie Robinson freezing him up en route to a 26-yard gain.

At the half, the Jets held a 13-0 lead.

Sam Franklin Jr. gave the home crowd something to be excited about with an interception of Tim Boyle, which Franklin nearly took the distance. He had a ton of green in front of him, but Boyle reached out and tripped him up saving a touchdown.

The Panthers failed to take advantage of the turnover as Corral was stripped of the ball from behind by Will McDonald. Nine plays and 45 yards later, the Jets found the end zone again, bumping the lead up to 20-0, on another misdirection play-action pass.

New York added one more score, just after the two-minute warning with a touchdown pass to Zack Kuntz to bring us to the final score, 27-0.
