Panthers Fall Short in Tennessee

The Panthers drop to 1-10 on the season.

NASHVILLE, TN - The disappointing season continues for the Carolina Panthers as they fell to the Tennessee Titans Sunday afternoon, 17-10. This was one of the last games on the schedule where the Panthers truly had a chance to come away with a win, but instead, it's another loss.

The Titans notched the first points of the game on an impressive 15-play, 91-yard drive that ate up nine minutes and 36 seconds, spilling over into the second quarter.

Tennessee head coach Mike Vrabel made a gusty call to go for it on 4th & 1 from his own 30 but it paid off. Tennessee brought in defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons as a fullback on the play and motioned him to the strong side, getting the Panthers to cheat to that side of the field. Levis pitched it to Derrick Henry to the weakside and easily picked up the first down. Will Levis went 7/7 for 80 yards on the drive but Henry was the man to cap off the drive with a one-yard touchdown rush.

Late in the first half, Panthers left tackle Ickey Ekwonu got beat off the line of scrimmage by Arden Key, resulting in a strip sack recovered by Jeffery Simmons at the Carolina 17-yard line. Two plays later, Derrick Henry found the end zone for the second time of the afternoon, this time from 10 yards out.

With 28 seconds left in the half, Will Levis completed a pair of passes for a combined 27 yards to set up a 53-yard field goal attempt by Nick Folk, who booted it through the uprights to give the Titans a 17-3 advantage at the half.

The Panthers scored on the opening drive of the third quarter, going 67 yards on 10 plays. Chuba Hubbard ran in the score from five yards out on 4th & 2 to draw the Panthers within a score but that would be the final score of the game for either team.

Carolina's defense continued to give Bryce Young and company chance after chance but nothing came of it. Protection was an issue again as the rookie was brought down to the ground four times and for the fourth straight week, Young threw for less than 200 yards.
