A Possible Trade Destination for Jeremy Chinn

Will the Panthers decide to deal the versatile safety ahead of the deadline?

Carolina Panthers safety Jeremy Chinn is on the shelf with a quad injury and will be required to miss at least the next four games. That doesn't mean teams around the league will lose all interest in attempting to acquire the versatile defender at the trade deadline, though.

According to Gilberto Manzano and Matt Verderame, the Dallas Cowboys could be the perfect landing spot for Chinn.

"Chinn might not be available to play until December due to his quad injury, but the Cowboys can afford to wait for the versatile defensive playmaker. Chinn is capable of playing linebacker and safety, two areas of need for a Cowboys defense that has had a few notable injuries this season. With Chinn sidelined, it might not cost Dallas much to trade for a player who could help come the postseason. Chinn, 25, has one sack and 23 total tackles this season."

I'm not going to pretend to know Dallas' interest level in Chinn or others around the league for that matter. I haven't heard anything concrete that suggests a serious level of interest, but I'm sure teams are making calls to Panthers GM Scott Fitterer inquiring about Chinn.

One of the biggest surprises this season, aside fro the 0-6 start, is Chinn usage rate. He's appeared in only 52% of all defensive snaps despite the coaching staff being extremely high on him in the offseason noting how there is "so much" that he can do.

Chinn is in the final year of his rookie contract and if there's no path to more playing time in the future, it wouldn't be a bad idea to move him and get something for him rather than just letting him walk.
