Breakdown of Adam Thielen's Contract with the Carolina Panthers

A look at Carolina's deal with the veteran receiver.

Sunday evening, the Carolina Panthers agreed to terms with veteran free agent wide receiver Adam Thielen on a three-year, $25 million deal.

He will carry a cap hit of $3.3M in 2023 and $9.9M in 2024. His base salary for each season is as follows: $1.1M, $5.5M, and $4M. $11M of his deal was guaranteed at signing with an $8.3M signing bonus.

This is, however, essentially a two-year deal. The Panthers can decide to move on from Thielen after the 2024 season and it would only cost them $5 million in dead cap as opposed to $11 million if he were cut after the 2023 season.

Thielen will turn 33 in August, so it's not a stretch to think Carolina parts ways after two years of the deal. Right now, they just needed to get a veteran receiver that has played at a high level to help out their young rookie quarterback and a receiver room that consists of guys all 25 or under.

During his nine seasons in Minnesota, Thielen caught 534 passes for 6,682 yards and 55 touchdowns.
