Reich: Bryce Young's Debut Was 'Largely Positive'
Bryce Young's official NFL debut last week in Atlanta wasn't all that memorable. Yes, he made some nice throws and recorded his first touchdown pass to Hayden Hurst, but that was overshadowed by his two interceptions to Jessie Bates III in the team's 24-10 season-opening loss.
When head coach Frank Reich went back and rewatched the tape, he saw a lot of positives from his quarterback, stating that he actually left the film room encouraged by what he saw.
"Obviously we had the couple turnovers and we talked about there's multiple dynamics in that, so I don't want to put it all on him. I thought he did a lot of good things. I thought he threw the ball well. We obviously have to find a way to get a few more plays downfield. We threw some, we just didn't hit on any of them. But I thought he saw the field well. I thought he looked comfortable in the pocket. All things for a guy in his first start in this league...the way he responded to adversity, I just thought it was largely positive."
Despite those turnovers, Young remained cool, calm, and collected, proving that no moment is too big or too pressurizing for him. When he takes the field on Monday Night Football against the New Orleans Saints, the spotlight will be on him once again. It will also mark his first regular season game in front of the home crowd at Bank of America Stadium. And for Reich, he's not overly concerned about having the nation's eyes on him.
"Every step for him is a new step in the NFL," Reich stated. "He's played on the big stage his whole life, so enjoy the moment. The biggest piece of advice you can give the rookies is when you play on Monday night, it's a long wait until Monday night. So don't get too amped up too early. Just be patient because it's a long wait."
