Quick Hits: Backup QB, Confidence in Andy Dalton, Right Guard Spot + More

Carolina Panthers head coach Frank Reich met with the media for the final time ahead of this week's game.
In this story:

Confidence in Jake Luton backing up Andy Dalton

"Feel good about Jake. He was here for training camp. Very smart guy, knows the offense. Good chemistry in the room. Confident in Jake and glad he's here."

Timeline for QB Bryce Young

"They're saying one to two weeks. I think Bryce has done well this week. I'm optimistic that he's on the right path and that whenever the soonest he can get back is, he will get back. When he gets back and when he gets cleared, he's our guy.

Right guard situation

"There'll be clarity there. We've had a good week of practice there, so we'll let that play out the way it plays out in the game. Sometimes during a game we get a feel like, hey, a guy needs a break. Usually, at o-line, we don't do that. But sometimes we go in a new situation like this when it's a little fresh, sometimes we might give another guy a series or two."

How Andy Dalton has looked

This guy is practicing at a high level. The way he's throwing the football. The way he works through progressions. The way he handles the operation. I mean, since he's been here, since day one he walked in the door, this guy has been starter-worthy. In my mind, in my opinion, he's one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world. Really glad we have him for situations like this. He's had a really good week of practice."
