Quick Hits: Going Away From the Run, Bryce Young's Status, New Guys Stepping Up + More

Carolina Panthers head coach Frank Reich recaps the loss to Seattle.

Not sticking with the run game

"There's forty plays run in this game from late in the third quarter on where we're down two scores. Forty plays. That's a lot of plays. I think from my tape it was play 47 to play 86 and when the offense takes the field on each of those plays, we're down two scores. And we're down two scores with a quarterback who's playing pretty good. And the run game up to that point had not been successful, so we called what we had to call to try and win the game."

More on leaning on the pass game

"We knew going into the game and it was a small sample size on the Seattle defense but just in general, we knew that their run defense was pretty stout and that their pass defense had given up some yards. So there's was a little bit going into this game of hey, we need to spread our wings here and do some damage in the passing game. This is going to have an opportunity for us to gain some confidence and momentum in the passing game."

If Bryce Young learned something from Sunday's game

"I did have a short conversation with him after the game but not that kind of a conversation. It was more just checking with him, encouraging him to see how it goes this week. Whatever was set up for Bryce to gain out of this week, I know he gained every ounce of what he could gain by watching Andy, by watching our offense, by watching our team. He was dialed into kind of learn from that whole process."

If Young will practice on Wednesday

"Don't know yet. We'll see how tomorrow goes and Wednesday, we'll give you an update then. But I know he's done everything possible to put himself in position to [practice]."

How LB Deion Jones played

The interception was a really instinctive play. Made a couple nice tackles, so I thought he played well. There are a few things to clean up, but I was happy with Deion stepping in there."

How LB Kamu Grugier-Hill played

"Kamu is my guy. I love this guy. He's everything you want in a player and a teammate. There's no backdown in his game. He steps up in the void of Shaq [Thompson] and is doing it exceedingly well."

Update on Austin Corbett

"I kind of take sneak peeks at Austin. We're out there and I see him working off over to the side and he's working exceedingly hard to get back as fast as he can. I know this with Austin, whatever that date is that the docs are going to say let's go, he'll be ready."
