David Tepper, Dan Morgan Release Statement on the Hiring of Dave Canales

A few words from the Carolina Panthers owner and GM.

Thursday night, the Carolina Panthers officially announced the hiring of Dave Canales as head coach.

"Dave's background is rooted in success," Panthers owner David Tepper said in the official team press release. "He has an innovative mindset and positive energy that connects well with players and staff. We are impressed with his ability to bring out the best in players."

Canales did not interview for any of the other head coaching vacancies, but his connection to new General Manager Dan Morgan played a massive role. The two spent eight years together in Seattle from 2010-17 before Morgan left the organization to take a position in Buffalo on Brandon Beane's staff.

"I'm excited to work alongside Dave again," Morgan said. "His background coaching multiple position groups has given him a great understanding of what it takes to build a successful team. His infectious personality resonates with players and everyone who comes in contact with him. I'm confident that will translate to the field."

Canales' offense in Tampa Bay finished 20th in scoring (20.5 ppg), 17th in passing (224.2 ypg), 32nd in rushing (88.8 ypg), and 23rd in total offense (313 ypg).
