Ejiro Evero Discusses Pass Rusher Rotation, CB Depth, Derrick Brown + More

Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero met with the media Thursday morning.

How Brian Burns played vs. Atlanta despite the ongoing contract dispute

"He's a pro. Last week, he handled it like a pro. I'm not going to get into all the nitty gritty with all the business part of it, but just watching the preparation in the meeting rooms, watching the way he prepared in the weight room and all of those things, the way he was on the practice field, he did a heck of a job. It's no surprise the way he plays when you watch him practice. He's done a good job and he's handling it the best he can."

Handling the corner rotation without Jaycee Horn

"It's a tough deal, obviously. But we feel really good about our corner situation right now. We've got a lot of guys who have got a lot of experience in this league and have played at a high level. We'll sort through exactly who's going to be playing and what roles, but we feel good about whoever is out there."

Facing the Saints' offense

"Derek is obviously very accomplished. He's done a lot in this league. We played against him last year twice in Denver, so we know what he's about. And they got good weapons. They got weapons all over the place - [Chris] Olave, Mike Thomas, [Rashid Shaheed]. They got a lot of players all over the place and a big tight end as well. We got out work cut out for us."

Yetur Gross-Matos playing four snaps and DJ Johnson not playing

"The game kind of started off a little bit more pass and then when they started running the ball more, getting more conservative in their approach, and when the score kind of went the way it was going, there just wasn't a lot of opportunities. And we didn't play that many snaps on defense too. But we definitely got to get those guys involved and get Yetur, [Amaré] Barno, Mr. Johnson, whoever is in there, we got to get them more reps."

Amount of reps for Justin Houston

"The one thing about Justin is he's very upfront and he's going to speak his mind. He's telling me like, coach, don't put a limit on me. I'm ready to play. So, we'll listen to him."

Derrick Brown's Week 1 performance

"Derrick was stout. Derrick showed some rush. And the best thing I thought he did was hustle to the ball. You saw him make the play on the screen on third and long. I don't think he gets enough credit for that. He plays really, really hard. He's always chasing the ball. For a man that big to play that many plays and play with that effort is pretty special."
