Four Teams That Should Consider Signing Cam Newton

Cam isn't ready to hang up the cleats just yet.

Cam Newton firmly believes that there is not only a job out there for him in the NFL, but a place where he can start. He's made it well known that he doesn't believe that there are 32 quarterbacks better than him. Maybe there is, maybe there isn't.

The truth is, what we've seen from Newton in his last two seasons of football is a shell of what he used to be. How much of that is due to the circumstances he was put in? How much of it was just the wear and tear of years of taking hits slowing him down? These are questions that everyone around the league has and is a big part of why Newton remains a free agent and hasn't played in a game since January 2nd of 2022.

Having not played this past season, many assumed that he would be stepping away from the game. That's not the case whatsoever. Cam believes he still has some good football left in him and to prove it, he participated in Auburn's Pro Day on Tuesday.

Although I don't see Newton getting a starting job anywhere in 2023, I do believe there are a handful of teams that should consider adding him as a backup option and in some instances, serve as a mentor to a younger quarterback.

Baltimore Ravens

Who knows how this whole Lamar Jackson thing is going to play out? Regardless, Cam is a natural fit for this offense. Sure, he's a different style of quarterback than Lamar but they both have the ability to make an impact on the game with their legs. Signing Newton could allow Baltimore to take some hits off of Jackson in short-yardage/goal line situations.

Buffalo Bills

Buffalo because why not? Sean McDermott loves bringing former Panthers up north. Plus, Cam has worked well with offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey in the past during their time together in Carolina and there are some similarities between Cam and Josh Allen's game.

Chicago Bears

The Bears added former Panther QB P.J. Walker, but I don't know how much that will help out Justin Fields. I wouldn't be surprised to see Chicago add another veteran quarterback and one that has years of starting experience under his belt. This is what makes Newton a good fit. He has that experience and can help Fields sharpen up his game.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Is Kenny Pickett going to end up being the franchise quarterback that Pittsburgh hoped he would be when they drafted him 20th overall last year? I'm not really sure. I'm not completely sold on him yet and I don't know how comfortable Steeler fans are with Mitch Trubisky as the only other option at quarterback.
