How the Panthers Can Beat the Vikings in Week 4

Carolina's keys to victory for this week's game.
In this story:

Carolina and Minnesota are both looking to pick up their first win of the season this Sunday. How can the Panthers do it?

Here are this week's three keys to the game for the Panthers.

Protect Bryce Young

The Panthers haven't really faced any top-tier pass rushers or front sevens to this point in the season but the offensive line has had a difficult time keeping the quarterback clean in the pocket. According to PFF, the Panthers have allowed 60 pressures through the first three games of the season. The rookie doesn't stand a chance if he constantly has someone in his grill. Keep Young clean and let him cook.

Play disciplined football

Last week, the Panthers couldn't stop shooting themselves in the foot with pre-snap penalties. But it wasn't just a Week 3 problem. It's been an issue in every game as Carolina leads the league in penalties per game (9.3). With a couple of pieces missing up front, a struggling WR unit, and a rookie quarterback, you can't afford to play behind the sticks.

Strike first

Sometimes it can be as simple as getting the first points of the game. Minnesota has yet to score in the first quarter of a game this season. The Panthers have had slow starts as well but if they can get on the board first, it could put a seed of doubt in Minnesota's head. History shows that just by scoring first, on average, you have about a 64% chance of winning the game. Get Bryce Young settled in and allow the defense to really get after it when playing with a lead.
