Inside the Numbers: Where the Panthers' Offense Ranks in Key Stats

A look at how Carolina's offense compares to the rest of the league.
In this story:

The Carolina Panthers have not had much success on offense this season and although no one expected them to light it up with a rookie quarterback leading the charge, many assumed it would be a lot better than what we've seen through six weeks of the season.

Starting this week, the Panthers' offense could see a slight uptick in success as offensive coordinator Thomas Brown will be taking over the play-calling duties, allowing head coach Frank Reich to have more of a CEO role.

"Thomas is made to do this. He's a great football mind," said Reich. "He has the strongest leadership qualities you could ask for in a coach, so I can't emphasize how excited I am for Thomas. I think there is a reason why at his age he has ascended to this position so quickly. You just get around him for five minutes and you know."

A big part of Carolina's struggles lies with the big fellas up front. Right guard Austin Corbett (knee) has yet to make his season debut and left guard Brady Christensen was lost for the season after suffering a bicep injury in the season opener. The o-line, which was expected to be a strength for this team, has turned into its biggest weakness.

The ground game has been ineffective and Young has been faced with a ton of pressure, particularly from the interior of the line. Mix in the lack of separation/speed from the receivers and it's been a hot mess for the rookie QB.
