Is Scott Fitterer Next?
Change is nothing new in Carolina. It happens every season in some form or fashion. Be it a coach, a general manager, a member of the front office, coordinator, or quarterback, something has changed seemingly every year since David Tepper purchased the Panthers back in 2018.
On Monday, Tepper fired head coach Frank Reich after a 1-10 start to the season. The team also let go of quarterbacks coach Josh McCown and assistant head coach/running backs coach Duce Staley. But the firing spree may not be over just yet. There's one big question mark still looming and that is whether or not Scott Fitterer will remain as the team's General Manager.
I wouldn't expect a move to be made in-season, however, it is hard to see Fitterer holding onto his job beyond this year. He was a part of the hiring process for Frank Reich but more notably, he mortgaged the future for Bryce Young and is likely going to be handing over the No. 1 overall pick to the Chicago Bears this spring unless something crazy happens down the stretch where the Panthers win a few games.
The Darnold trade was a dud, hey didn't get much in return for Christian McCaffrey, and as if a first and second round pick in 2023 wasn't enough for the Bears, Fitterer also had to throw in this year's first AND DJ Moore.
When you look back at Fitterer's draft classes, there's not much to be desired.
