Jeremy Chinn is a Man of Many Capes
It's still a secret as to how the Panthers' defensive coaching staff will deploy Jeremy Chinn this upcoming season but one thing is for sure, they know they've got a stud to work with.
As a matter of fact, he's more than a stud. According to linebackers coach Peter Hansen, he's a superhero.
"We'll see," Hansen said when asked if Chinn will play any at linebacker. "At this point, we haven't gotten that far but we'll see what the future holds. Like a lot of our secondary guys, we see him as a superhero we just don't know which cape he'll wear from day to day.
"Height, weight, speed, and when you actually see him do things on the field, it's like, 'Woah,' I didn't think he could do that."
During the first practice of OTAs Chinn was working with the defensive backs and that appears to be where he'll take most of his reps this spring. That said, he will not be pigeonholed to just one position.
"He's really just embracing his role," head coach Frank Reich said earlier in the week. "It's going to be different for him. And talking to EJ [Ejiro Evero] the other day about some other possibilities and I know it's offseason and we've only done phase one, phase two, and this is just the start. But we're really excited about how he's going to fit into our scheme. After talking to EJ, there's probably even more roles for him than what we thought."
