Panthers' 2023 Roster Bubble: Running Backs

Read more on the Carolina Panthers running backs who are on the bubble to make the team entering the 2023 NFL season.

Miles Sanders signed a four-year deal with the Panthers this offseason and Chuba Hubbard solidified himself as a RB2 after his first two years in the league.

We know the Panthers have two spots in the running back room locked up but there's one, possibly two spots that will be up for grabs heading into the preseason.

Here are the four players, as of today, who will be battling for a place on the active roster.

Raheem Blackshear

Blackshear has the most experience, albeit 13 games in the league. He had a couple of "big" runs last season but for the most part, was limited in the run game averaging just 3.3 yards per attempt. What gives him the edge is the value he brings on special teams as a punt and kick returner. Blackshear averaged 27 yards per kick return and had a long of 66 last season.

Spencer Brown

Brown is a bigger back who likes to run between the tackles. He rushed for 43 yards on nine carries last season and has been with the team since 2021 when he signed as an undrafted free agent. Brown was a workhorse at UAB, toting the rock 858 times in his career for 4,011 yards and 41 touchdowns, averaging 4.7 yards per carry.

Camerun Peoples

Peoples is very similar to Brown in size and running style. The former App State product seeks contact and welcomes it. He rushed for 2,830 yards and 33 touchdowns during his five years in Boone, most of which came over the last three seasons. I believe he has the best chance of anyone on this list not named Blackshear.

Tiyon Evans

Tiyon Evans, a running back from Louisville, signed as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Rams this spring before being claimed on waivers. During his one season with the Cardinals, Evans rushed for 525 yards and six touchdowns on 83 carries. One of his best performances of the season came in the dominating 48-21 win over Wake Forest where he rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown on just eleven carries.
