Panthers Discussed 'Prominent Coaching Role' with ESPN Analyst Dan Orlovsky

This would have been an interesting hire.

Frank Reich has made some big-time hires, delivering on his promise to team owner David Tepper that he would piece together a strong coaching staff. He's added numerous staff members that have years of experience coaching in the NFL, some of which have been head coaches in the league (Jim Caldwell, Dom Capers).

Reich is also hiring some young, talented minds such as Ejiro Evero (defensive coordinator) and Josh McCown, who is getting his start as an NFL coach as the team's quarterbacks coach.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Panthers expressed interest in ESPN analyst and former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky. They and the Indianapolis Colts had discussions with him for "prominent offensive coaching roles" before he opted to remain with the worldwide leader in sports.

Following the news of Jeff Saturday being named the interim head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, there was some speculation as to whether Orlovsky would join his former teammate on the staff. During an interview on the Dan Patrick Show, Orlovsky addressed those rumors and discussed his interest in coaching.

“I made myself pretty clear to Jeff. I want to coach one day, I’m very much interested in it. Candidly, as the days go on and on I get more interested in it…I have a lot of friends who are coaches in the league and we talk all the time, they know where I stand.”
