Panthers Hand First-Team Reps to Bryce Young
We all knew that at some point, the change would be made to give first overall pick Bryce Young complete ownership of the first-team reps. We just didn't know when it would happen.
On the final day of OTAs, head coach Frank Reich made the decision to make the move as everything is going just as they had hoped.
"For right now...that was our move. Again, there's really nothing more to say other than this was a time we had earmarked to make a move. We made the move. We'll keep progressing and we'll always do what's best for the team."
This doesn't mean that Young has been anointed QB1, though. It's just the next step in the process.
"Not yet," responded Reich when asked if he was comfortable naming Young the starter. "I mean, he's showing everything you want to see but again, this goes even back to the draft decision. You don't make a decision until you have to make it. We'll just keep giving him and our team the opportunity to get better and to earn that starting role. He and a lot of our guys are taking the steps needed to earn that spot. But we don't have to make that decision yet, so we'll just keep chugging along here."
