Report: Panthers Pursued Trades for Davante Adams, Tee Higgins

Carolina took a couple of big swings ahead of the trade deadline.

One of the many reasons for the Carolina Panthers struggles this season stems from the well below average play they have received from the wide receivers on the roster. Aside from Adam Thielen, the room has underachieved. Terrace Marshall Jr. didn't take that next step. DJ Chark hasn't been a factor. Jonathan Mingo is navigating the ups and downs of a rookie season, and Laviska Shenault has been used more in the backfield.

For weeks, it was rumored that the Panthers would attempt to make a move ahead of the trade deadline to get rookie quarterback Bryce Young a reliable, go-to target. According to David Newton of ESPN, the Panthers did indeed take a couple of hacks at reeling in that No. 1 receiver.

"The Panthers understand that. They went after the Bengals' Higgins and elite receiver Davante Adams of the Las Vegas Raiders before the trade deadline, according to an NFL front office source with knowledge of discussions, but neither team was willing to deal.

They also made a run at Washington Commanders edge rusher Montez Sweat, to pair up with Burns, but he was traded to the Bears in exchange for a 2024 second-round pick.

The Panthers will have another chance at Higgins this offseason in free agency if he doesn't get a new deal with Cincinnati. Adams on the other hand, is under contract through 2026 but has a potential out in 2025.
