The Carolina Panthers have signed veteran free agent linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill, the team announced Tuesday afternoon.

The 28-year-old was a former sixth-round draft pick of the New England Patriots but was waived in September of his rookie year and was claimed by the Philadelphia Eagles, where he spent two years around Frank Reich albeit on the opposite side of the ball.

In the first three years of his career, Grugier-Hill primarily served on special teams and has become one of the better special teams players in the NFL. As the years have gone by, Grugier-Hill has earned more of an opportunity at linebacker and has played well in a reserve role.

In addition to the Patriots and Eagles, Grugier-Hill has spent time with the Miami Dolphins, Houston Texans, and Arizona Cardinals. This past season he tallied 48 tackles in 15 games. In 2021 with Houston, he set career-highs in tackles (108), tackles for loss (13), QB hits (5), and sacks (3).
