Panthers to Conduct a Second Round of Interviews with Dave Canales, Raheem Morris
The Carolina Panthers will bring in Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dave Canales and Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris for a second interview for the team's head coaching job according to Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport.
This year, Tampa finished 20th in scoring (20.5 ppg), 17th in passing (224.2 ypg), 32nd in rushing (88.8 ypg), and 23rd in total offense (313 ypg). The Bucs put up a good fight against the Detroit Lions in the divisional round of the playoffs, but fell short 31-23.
Raheem Morris, former head coach of the Buccaneers, saw his season come to an end in the Wild Card round, also at the hand of the Lions.
Rams GM Les Snead told reporters a few days ago that Morris is the ideal candidate to become a head coach and will bring success to wherever he lands.
"He's going to give any organization an edge in just how collaborative he is. It's going to be an edge that most teams aren't going to be able to compete with. I know this, he will be able to hire an unbelievable staff. Every coach who is any good, who is qualified, they're going to want to work for Raheem. And I'm pretty sure there are going to be tampering charges because just about every player in the NFL is going to text him and want to come play for him."
Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero and Bengals Brian Callahan are also expected to get a second interview.
