Pineiro Named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week
A year ago, many Panthers fans were upset with kicker Eddy Pineiro after missing the go-ahead extra point toward the end of regulation against Atlanta and then missing the game-winner in overtime.
Since that day, Pineiro has turned himself into one of the league's best kickers. And for good measure this past Sunday, he went 3/3 with a game-winning field goal as time expired against those very Falcons.
Following his performance, Pineiro was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
"That was probably one of the craziest winds I've ever played in in my six years in the NFL," Pineiro said. "It was insane. Just the rain, the wind, and the ball was just heavier; it was just different. It was a cool experience; it was awesome. I felt like I was a kid again, playing soccer back home in Miami in the rain. It was awesome."
Pineiro's 34-yard field goal at the end of the first half moved him past Joey Slye for third in Panthers' franchise history in field goals made. For the season, Pineiro is 24/28 on field goals and 16/17 on extra points.
