Reich Shares Postgame Locker Room Speech

Carolina's head coach isn't giving up on this team despite an 0-5 start.
In this story:

This isn't unfamiliar territory for the Carolina Panthers or head coach Frank Reich. Last season, Carolina began the season 1-4 leading to the firing of Matt Rhule. In 2018, Reich and the Colts began 1-5 before rallying to make the playoffs and even winning a game in the postseason. But it's the first time the two are going through this together.

No, it's not the start everyone expected, but there's still time to get it fixed. The Panthers have another challenging game next Sunday against the Miami Dolphins before hitting the bye week. Out of the bye week, things appear to get a little easier with the Texans, Colts, and Bears, giving this struggling team a chance to get on track and pick up a win or two.

In his postgame press conference on Sunday, Reich shared what his message was to the team in the locker room following the blowout loss.

"Keep Pounding. You get to this position and no one envisioned this. This is the embodiment of Keep Pounding. The only way you do that is if you believe. If you believe it's going to make a difference, otherwise you just check out. That's the essence of Keep Pounding. It's a mental toughness that even when things aren't going your way, you back in and try to have your best week of work ever, this week. I think it will make a difference. I believe our players will do that. It's hard. It's hard when you're 0-5, but that's all there is...keep fighting to get better and know that it's going to make an impact. This year, tomorrow, and future days, you Keep Pounding to fight to get better.

"I don't feel sorry for any of us. But I feel bad that we're here. These guys are working hard, making sacrifices and you want to win for a lot of reasons, but you want to win for these leaders in the locker room. And I believe that will happen. I don't know when. But I believe we will keep working towards that. I believe we have the players to do it. I believe we have the coaches to do it. And that's why you fight and scratch and claw every day because you believe that. You want it all to come to fruition right now, next week against the Miami Dolphins, and this year, we turn things around and have a miraculous turnaround, and that can happen. But if it doesn't happen and we're fighting and scratching to get better for future, then that's the benefit. I don't know. I don't know what's going to happen. I do know this, that I'm going to come to work and this will be my best week of work ever."
