Reich's Confidence in O-Line Hasn't Wavered

The big guys up front just had an off day at work.

The biggest takeaway from the Carolina Panthers' first preseason game was the ineffectiveness of the offensive line. Bryce Young was sacked once and hit three times while backups Matt Corral was sacked four times.

Yes, it's a starting lineup that was only missing one piece in Austin Corbett, but that one missing piece can cause a trickle-down effect to the rest of the unit with multiple guys rotating in at right guard.

As bad of a performance it was from the big guys up front, head coach Frank Reich still believes in that group and isn't putting much stock into what happened on Saturday evening.

"Just get more consistent. I feel like there's been so much positive throughout OTAs and throughout all of training camp. We feel like our o-line is a strength for us. Saturday was not a good day for us as a team. It was not a good day up front. But that doesn't make me waver at all in my belief of our offensive line and who we are. We'll learn from that and be much better."

Not to make any excuses, but it is a valid point in that the Jets had an extra full week of practice AND also had a preseason game under their belt leading up to that game. There's no reason to hit the panic button just yet. It's one preseason game and the Jets have one of the best defensive fronts in all of football. They could bounce back and have a dominant showing on Friday against the Giants and all of a sudden, everyone forgets about what happened a week prior. If this issue lingers into the second and third preseason games, then yes, fans have every right to be concerned about that group heading into regular season play, as well as the coaching staff.
