Revisiting the Cam vs. Dak Debate
Cam Newton's video referencing many of today's quarterbacks as game managers was taken out of context by almost everyone in the media space, including those at ESPN and FOX.
They took it as Newton being frustrated that he's not in the league while these other quarterbacks that he mentioned are starting games and are receiving praise. He circled back to it and made it clear that the term "game manager" is not a negative connotation.
"Cam Newton, you had a worse career than Dak Prescott. And we got a great staff here at The Herd and they were able to pull up some stats. Let's just take a glance, shall we? Look at these numbers. Is that not shocking to you that Dak has had a better career than Cam? Now Cam won an MVP, obviously. He went to a Super Bowl, but Dak Prescott...look at the numbers. The numbers don't lie. Dak Prescott has had a better career and more consistent and you know, you're not really great until you're consistent."
McIntyre failed to put the rushing numbers on display so that it would help support his case. Newton is one of the best rushing quarterbacks of all time and to not have the featured in the argument is lazy. The most rushing yards Dak had in a season? 357. For Cam, the 359 yards he had in 2016 was his lowest total for a full year. He hung around the 700-yard mark for most of his career and recorded 10 or more rushing scores in a season three times. Prescott has never had more than six in a season.
And then there's the overall results. You know, the part of his case that McIntyre tried to brush off to the side. Newton has been to a Super Bowl and made it there with far less around him than Prescott has had in Dallas.
On Sunday, the Cowboys and Dak Prescott once again proved to be overrated in their embarrassing loss to the Green Bay Packers - a game Dak threw two picks and nearly a third in the end zone. Sure, the Cowboy defense was atrocious but Dak's ineffectiveness early caused things to snowball.
Until Prescott does something in the postseason, Newton has the upper leg.
