Score Predictions for Panthers vs. Saints
Schuyler Callihan: Panthers 20, Saints 19.
On paper, the Saints have the better team. But after watching how much the Saints struggled last week against the Titans despite forcing three turnovers, it has me thinking this is a winnable home game for Carolina. The Panthers' defense steps up and slows down the run this week and finds a way to an ugly one-point win.
Matt Alquiza: Saints 31, Panthers 17
The Saints are about as opposite as you can get from the Falcons. New Orleans should have no problem moving the ball through the air against Carolina’s makeshift secondary. Secondary prediction: Jonathan Mingo scores his first career touchdown in this game.
Tyler Ball: Saints 24, Panthers 17
While the Panthers fell last week, there were some positives to keep an eye out for this week against another division rival. Young will have to move past his interceptions and remember to be cautious when throwing over the middle, especially against this Saints secondary.
For the Panthers to compete against Carr and the Saints, they need to build momentum early by hitting on some explosive plays. After they set a tone, they need to be unpredictable, be aggressive, and make deep throws. Anything that can safely but effectively keep the Saints second-guessing and on their heels. Young has raw potential, but right now his team and staff need to play to his strengths, which at this point is that their opponents don’t have much film that they can dissect. I expect Thielen to have his first touchdown as a Panther as well as several targets under 15 yards.
