Shannon Sharpe Blasts Cam Newton for Creating Wish List

The Hall of Famer is not happy with Cam Newton. Not one bit.
In this story:

Cam Newton sat out the 2022 season and if it weren't for the Panthers scrambling for an answer at QB, he would have sat out the 2021 season as well. That being said, the former face of the Panthers' franchise is not ready to hang up the cleats just yet. He recently participated at Auburn's Pro Day in front of NFL scouts, coaches, and GMs. But he took it a step further last week by expressing his interest in certain jobs.

That didn't sit well with Shannon Sharpe, who absolutely ripped Cam for putting out the list of players that he'd be willing to back up.

"Cam need to put the camera down. See, the problem I have with Cam is that his arrogance is suffocating. This man was out of the entire NFL last year. And then he comes in with a wishlist. These are the teams or these are the players I'm willing to backup. Skip, I don't have a job, but I'm only willing to work for Apple, Google, Microsoft, JP Morgan, Amazon, Salesforce, American Express, Wells Fargo, Walmart, and Target. I don't have a job! I don't get to call the shots. Cam, do you realize this? How many teams called you last year? You're telling teams what you're willing to do. How many teams called you? And now, because you think you say something on YouTube or you put it out there on social media with your fancy font and these team saying, man, did you see what Cam say? Cam say he backup Deshaun [Watson]. He backup Lamar Jackson. He backup this and that one. Let's get on the phone and call him up. There is a reason why teams haven't called you. And you don't get it. Your arrogance blinds you. You think because you're Cam Newton...if you were 2015 Cam, you wouldn't even miss last year."

I get Shannon's point. If Cam truly wants to continue his playing career, he needs to have an open mind. But at the same time, I don't believe Cam put this list out there to tell teams, "Hey, I'm willing to come play for you." And "I won't play here, here, or here." Could the players/teams on that list be his preference? Sure, maybe. But is he going to limit himself to just those teams in particular? No. He just wants to go to the right situation and go somewhere that can contend. As he said in one of his final press conferences with the Panthers, he's not playing to win five games in a season. When the right team and the right opportunity arises, we'll see Cam Newton back in the NFL.
