Thomas Brown on Bryce's Best Day, O-Line Injuries, Lack of TE Targets + More
How Bryce Young can have similar success to Andy Dalton did last week
"Andy did a phenomenal job last week which is no surprise to anyone who has seen him work. From how he came in on Monday to how he digested information to Wednesday practice, Thursday practice, Friday, all those type of things. But I think it's more about our overall execution offensively and I think from week to week it depends on what you're facing from a defensive coverage standpoint and having answers when it comes to that."
How Bryce Young looked in his return to practice
"Every rep is an opportunity for him to grow and learn from past experiences whether it be good or bad. I would say honestly, yesterday probably felt like his best day this fall when it comes to not just the execution but the energy and enthusiasm. Stepping into the huddle calling a play with conviction, coaching his guys up from a receiver standpoint and o-line up front, just kind of being the maestro. It was the best job he's done in my opinion so far this year."
Finding a balance on offense
"We got to be better with the runs we actually call in the game. But most importantly, we got to cut out nine penalties offensively. When it comes to putting us behind the sticks, those get back on track scenarios it makes it more difficult to stay on track and calls some of those runs. We're trying to play catch-up within a down. And balance to me doesn't mean 50/50. It means run when we want to be able to run and pass when we want to throw the football and dictate it on our own terms."
Throwing it 58 times against Seattle
"I think it's about us trying to find the best ways for us to win the football game. From a coordinator standpoint, I'm trying to be an expert in all aspects whether it becomes the run game, protection, dropback pass game, quick game, screens. But it's about our continued dialogue working together but also giving feedback on a down to down basis."
Lack of tight end targets
"I think it's all based off who you're playing, what they're playing coverage-wise and also who is open and available. I think when you talk about attack a defense from a pass game standpoint, you have a specific plan from week to week when it comes to attacking single-high man, single-high zone, three deep zones, or even a two-high shell. It's more about guys getting open and the timing and rhythm of the play."
If the injuries on the o-line have hindered the offense
"I would say that would be a convenient excuse to make. Depending on week to week who we have up our job as coaches is to get them ready to go play and from their standpoint its their job to be a pro and play when it's time to go play."
