Thomas Brown Talks Young's Injury, What Dalton Brings, WRs + More

Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Thomas Brown met with the media Thursday afternoon.

If he was surprised by Bryce Young's injury

"There was no flinch by him at all. There was no mention of any injuries throughout the game which shows his toughness overall. It was great to be able to see him compete."

If he knew when Bryce Young injured the ankle

"I do not. Sometime in the first half. I could not pinpoint a play or exactly when it happened. He never said one word the whole game."

Difference in the offense with Andy Dalton under center

"I would say the difference would end up being him being an experienced quarterback, having a ton of reps. Obviously playing this opponent before in the past. It might give him some more insight into what he likes to be called in a game when it comes to some of the drop back game, play-action pass, and that inventory standpoint. But we'll keep the core of our offense together."

If he would feel comfortable playing a rookie QB on Sunday that didn't practice

"I would. Yeah, no question. That rookie. I'm not going to make a general statement when it comes to all rookies, but that rookie I would."

Route running or scheme of the plays that are the reason why WRs aren't getting open

"I would say it's both. Being in the National Football League, the windows are really small. Every now and then you have some free runners - somebody busts a coverage. But if guys are playing with great technique whether it be press man or a three-deep zone look, there's not going to be much separation. It's more about the timing, anticipation, the operation overall for us offensively to get better when it comes to guys being open."
