What a Silent Trade Deadline Means for the Panthers

Carolina didn't make any moves today.
In this story:

Brian Burns, Hayden Hurst, Miles Sanders, Adam Thielen, Andy Dalton, Jeremy Chinn, Donte Jackson, and Frankie Luvu...you are safe.

The NFL's trade deadline has come and gone and the Panthers opted to stand pat despite weeks or rumors floating around the league that Carolina would be looking to move a piece or two.

So, what does the silence mean?

- The Panthers must feel confident that they can get a long-term deal done with Brian Burns or are at worst, hopeful something will get done.

- Bryce Young's top target, Adam Thielen, remains on the roster. There was some speculation out there that Carolina could look to flip Thielen for a late draft pick but it wouldn't have made much sense. Carolina's receiving room has underwhelmed aside from No. 19.

- More on impacting Bryce Young...Andy Dalton sticks around. There's a lot of things that Dalton offers that many backup quarterbacks around the league just simply can't. He's played a big part in Young's transition to the NFL and having that same voice in the room carries some weight.

- Valuing what's left of the 2024 draft capital. There's no reason a team at 1-6 should be trading away a future first or a 2024 2nd and then some for a wide receiver. Work your way through the receiver struggles for ten more games and then you'll be able to go get that help in the offseason.

- There's either still hope for Terrace Marshall Jr. or no market for him. I could see it being either/or and perhaps a bit of both.

- Jeremy Chinn's injury likely played a factor in no action. Contenders around the league would have pushed hard to land the versatile defender.

- Fitterer is going to have his work cut out for him this offseason. This is the downside of no moves being made. No additional draft picks in 2024 and there's a lot of positions that need to be addressed.
