Will Evero Get a Chance to Be the Head Coach in Carolina?
Ejiro Evero says he has not had any conversations with anybody about the Carolina Panthers head coaching job, but with the season still going on, it's not a surprise. Many around the league believe it's just a matter of time before Evero gets a head coaching gig, some thinking it could be as early as this offseason.
Evero did a great job with defense in his lone season in Denver in 2022 and that success has translated to this year's group in Carolina. The Panthers' defense has been riddled with injuries all season long, yet they rank third in the league in yards allowed (298.1) and third in passing defense (175.1 ypg).
As a matter of fact, Evero actually interviewed for the Panthers' head coaching job a year ago before Frank Reich eventually hired him as the team's defensive coordinator.
"It was great," Evero said of his HC interview in Carolina. "Just like all the other interviews I did, it's always a great learning experience being in that setting. Thinking more globally and not just thinking about schemes and players, and thinking about how the entire organization is run. Those are all great experiences and definitely had a really good interview with Mr. Tepper last year."
When asked if he thought he was ready to be an NFL head coach, Evero responded, "I don't know if anybody is ever ready to be a head coach. Until you sit in that seat you really don't know what you're dealing with. But I really, and I mean this wholeheartedly, I'm focused and invested in Tampa Bay and trying to beat them and finish off on a good note."
I do believe Evero will get another shot to interview for the job with Tepper and Fitterer, if he's interested. Whether he makes it to the second round of interviews or not is the question mark.
