The Panthers needed to add some bodies in the secondary and did so Thursday by claiming defensive back Josh Thomas off waivers from the Arizona Cardinals.

The Montgomery, Alabama native played his college ball up the road at Appalachian State, where accumulated 163 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 7 pass breakups, and 7 interceptions from 2015-19.

Thomas signed with the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent in 2020 and appeared in two games in two years with the organization. After being released by the Bills last August, he signed on to the Arizona Cardinals' practice squad. He eventually would be promoted to the active roster and appeared in a few games for the red birds, primarily serving as a special teamer.

In a corresponding move, the team waived safety Vernon Scott, who the team signed last month.
