Panthers Add a Quarterback to the Roster
The Panthers' roster is back to 90 as they have signed free agent quarterback Jake Luton.
Why another quarterback?
Bryce Young and Matt Corral are set to handle most of the workload in preseason play while veteran Andy Dalton will see limited action, if any. The front office probably doesn't want Young playing all that much during the preseason either, so they needed to go out and get another quarterback to not put everything on the shoulders of Corral.
Luton was a sixth-round draft pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020. He started three games for the Jags as a rookie, but lost all three starts completing 60-of-110 pass attempts for 624 yards, two touchdowns, and six interceptions. Since being let go by Jacksonville, Luton has spent time with the Seahawks, Dolphins, Jags (again), and Saints.
During his three years at Oregon State, Luton tossed for 5,227 yards, 42 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
