Frank Reich Gives Update on Austin Corbett's Recovery

Still a little ways to go for the Panthers starting guard.

Carolina Panthers starting right guard Austin Corbett is continuing to work his way back from an ACL injury that he suffered in the season finale last year against the New Orleans Saints.

Considering the timing of the injury, it was well known early on that this could be something that spills into the 2023 season. Corbett underwent successful surgery in January and was obviously held out of OTAs and minicamp and we've yet to see him in training camp.

Corbett still has a pretty significant limp to his step, but he has certainly come a long way. On Saturday, Panthers head coach Frank Reich provided an update on his progress.

"Still optimistic. He's still ahead of schedule, but we're not rushing that. I mean, we're not anticipating him being ready for Week 1. We'll just be patient. He's doing great. If you watched him move around, you'd say he looks like he could play Week 1 but that kind of injury, you go somewhat by the progress that they're making and then to that injury, there's just, it takes what it takes as far as time. And years of history of that injury tell you don't rush even when they're way ahead of schedule, it's still better to be cautious and don't get him in there too soon."

Assuming Corbett is unable to go for the season opener, we'll likely see Cade Mays fill in his place.
