Is Ron Rivera On His Way Out of Washington?
The Carolina Panthers will be in search of a new head coach here in just a few weeks, but they'll have some company as several other jobs are expected to open up at season's end.
One job that is expected to pop open is Washington. According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Commanders will move on from Ron Rivera.
“At this point it’s understood around the building based on multiple people I have spoken with that Ron Rivera and some front office members will be fired,” Russini wrote. “Since acquiring the team, new owner Josh Harris has had the vision to keep Rivera in place through the end of the season, then move on. It’s really not a secret anymore.”
Rivera has not recorded a winning season during his four-year tenure in Washington with his best season coming in 2022 where the team went 8-8-1. His 26-37-1 mark has been impacted by the franchise's inability to find a franchise quarterback. They believe Sam Howell can be that guy but he's still in the infancy of his career and is going through the ups and downs of a young quarterback.
Rivera spent nine seasons as the head man of the Carolina Panthers going 76-63-1, winning and NFC championship in 2015.
