Matt Corral Leads Stallions to Victory in UFL Debut
Just a couple of years ago, the Carolina Panthers thought enough of Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral to trade up for him in the draft, hoping he would eventually become the solution to the team's QB issues.
Unfortunately, that dream ended in the blink of an eye when Corral suffered a Lisfranc injury in a preseason game against the New England Patriots, ending his rookie season. The following offseason, the team selected Bryce Young, slamming the door shut on Corral of ever being the guy.
Following preseason play, the Panthers waived the former third round pick. He latched on with the New England Patriots, but would only hang around for a couple of weeks.
Now, the former Panthers QB is leading the charge for the Birmingham Stallions of the UFL, hoping to make some noise and return to the NFL.
In his first start, Corral completed 12-of-21 pass attempts for 201 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. The touchdown toss came in the final seconds of the first half, a 39-yarder down the sideline to Deon Cain.
This week, Corral and the Stallions will take on the Michigan Panthers. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. EST on Sunday and will be available on ESPN/ESPN+.
