Bright and early Tuesday morning, Carolina Panthers GM Scott Fitterer struck a deal with the Kansas City Chiefs to land wide receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette. The two teams agreed to a swap of conditional 2025 seventh-rounders.

Smith-Marsette (6'1", 185 lbs) was drafted in the fifth round in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings out of Iowa. In one season with the Vikings, Smith-Marsette appeared in eight games and registered five catches for 116 yards and two touchdowns.

At the start of the 2022 season, he was claimed by the Chicago Bears off waivers playing in six games there, catching just one pass. By late October, he landed with the Kansas City Chiefs and appeared in two games but recorded no stats.

As DJ Chark (hamstring), Terrace Marshall Jr. (back), and Laviska Shenault Jr. (concussion) continue to work their way back from injury, the Panthers needed to add another body in the receiver room.
