Panthers Activate Corbett, Place Three on Injured Reserve
Tuesday evening the Carolina Panthers announced that offensive lineman Austin Corbett has been activated from the physically unable to perform list. Corbett was cleared to practice earlier this month, making his return from an ACL injury.
On the downside, the Panthers will be placing safety Jeremy Chinn, outside linebacker Yetur Gross-Matos, and tight end Giovanni Ricci on injured reserve which will hold them out for at least the next four games.
Through the first six games of the season, Chinn's usage has dropped dramatically from where it was in his first three years in the league. Ejiro Evero explained why he's only been on the field 52% of all defensive snaps this season.
"There is specialized packages for him. We're obviously trying to play him and Troy (Hill) at that nickel position and then have Jeremy in some of the dime positions. Getting more third downs is how we get him on the field obviously and then some of those specialized first and second down deals too. Our execution level, our ability to play the run game better and get into more pass situations is going to allow that to happen."
Gross-Matos was playing well considering the position change inside this 3-4 scheme. He had totaled 14 tackles, five QB hits, three tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks in six games.
