Official: Panthers Announce Dave Canales as Head Coach

The search for a new head coach is officially over in Carolina.

After one successful season as the offensive coordinator in Tampa Bay, Dave Canales is headed to Carolina to become the next head coach of the Carolina Panthers. The team officially announced the hire moments ago.

Canales' offense finished 20th in scoring (20.5 ppg), 17th in passing (224.2 ypg), 32nd in rushing (88.8 ypg), and 23rd in total offense (313 ypg).

Owner David Tepper and newly hired general manager Dan Morgan also interviewed Panthers interim head coach Chris Tabor, Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan, Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, Dolphins offensive coordinator Frank Smith, Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, and Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken for the position. There was also a report from Jeff Darlington of ESPN that the Panthers met with former Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, but was never confirmed by the team.
